Network: Finding MAC Addresses

The MAC address is used to register your device on USU's BlueZone Network.  To register your device, locate the devices MAC address then visit bluezone.usu.edu.  Remember that other names for a MAC address include Physical address, Ethernet address, and Wi-Fi address.

1. Windows OS

1. Go to the Start menu

2. Type cmd and press Enter.

Once you pull up the command prompt window type getmac. You will see the MAC address listed. If there are multiple addressses, disregard the rows that say 'Bluetooth' or 'Media Disconnected'. If you are still left with multiples and are not sure which one you need, feel free to call the Service Desk at 797-HELP (4357).

 

 

2. Mac OS

1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.

2. Click on Network.

3. Select your currently active network connection from the left menu (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc) and then click on Advanced in the lower right corner.

4. For the Wi-Fi address, look at the bottom of the window for Wi-Fi address. The hexadecimal characters next to this are the machines MAC address.

            

5. For the ethernet MAC Address, you will find it under the Hardware tab.   

            

 

3. AIX 

1. In a terminal window, type /bin/netstat -v or /bin/entstat en0.

2. The MAC address will b on the line that begins with Hardware Address.

4. Linux 

1. In a terminal window, type /sbin/ifconfig eth0.

2. The MAC address will be after the characters HWaddr.

5. Chromebook 

1. Click on the Network and Settings window on your system tray (where it shows the time, battery, avatar, etc.).

2. Click on the Wi-Fi section to see network details.

3. There will be an "i" button in the bottom-right corner, click on it and your MAC address will be displayed.

6. iOS Devices (iPad, iPod, iPhone) 

1. On the home screen, tap Settings >> General >> About.

2. Scroll down until you see Wi-Fi Address and Bluetooth.

3. The "Wi-Fi Address” setting is your iOS MAC address.

7. Android 

1. Open Menu (Usually at the bottom of the screen).

2. Navigate to Settings.

3. Select Wi-Fi.

4. Open Settings (Represented by three dots on the bottom right corner).

5. Select Advanced.

6. The MAC address will be listed near the bottom.

8. Nook 

1. Tap the below the screen to get to the Home screen.

2. Tap the Settings icon.

3. A screen will be displayed with the MAC address you need.

 

 

9. Kindle Fire 

1. From the Home screen, click on the Settings icon in the top right corner.

2. Tap More.

3. Tap Device.

4. Look for section Wi-Fi MAC Address to see the MAC address for the Kindle.

10. Playstation 2 

1. Load the Network Adapter Start-up Disk in your Playstation 2 game console. 

2. Make sure your Network Cable is disconnected. 

3. Walk through the steps that the Start-up Disk presents until it starts testing your connection. Since you do not have a network cable connected this test will fail. 

4. Press the select button to display the MAC address.

11. Playstation 3 

1. Turn on the Playstation to get to the menu screen.

2. Scroll to the left until you are at the System Settings menu.

3. Scroll down to System Information.

4. Write down the MAC address, it will be used to register the Playstation on BlueZone.

 

 

12. Playstation 4 

1. Go to Settings in the Home menu.

2. Scroll down and select Network.

3. Select View Connection Status.

4. The MAC address is listed as MAC Address (LAN Cable).

13. Portable Playstation 

1. Go to the Settings menu on the XMB; then go to System Settings.

2. Select System Information.

3. The MAC address will be displayed.

14. Xbox 

1. Turn on your Xbox game console with no game disk in the drive tray. 

2. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Xbox Live

3. Your Xbox will display a message saying that it was not able to establish a connection. 

4. Press A to continue. The Connect Status screen will be displayed. 

5. Choose the Settings option, and then go to the Network Settings screen. Your Xbox MAC address is displayed at the bottom right portion of the screen.

15. Xbox 360 

1. To get the Xbox's MAC address, navigate to the Settings menu on the Dashboard, then go down to System.

2. Connect to the BlueZone wireless network.

3. Once it connects it will try to test the connection; cancel this as the Xbox is not registered yet on the network; select Configure Network.

4. Make sure you see an IP address here; If you see 0.0.0.0 it's not connected to the wireless network.

5. Go to Additional Settings and select Advanced Settings.

6. The MAC address will be on the left side.

16. Xbox One 

1. Open the Settings Menu.

2. Select Network.

3. Select Advanced.

4. The MAC address is listed as Wired MAC.

17. Nintendo Wii

1. Turn on your Wii console and press the A button on the Wii remote to reach the main menu; use the remote to select the Wii button.

2. Select Wii Settings.

3. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select Internet.

4. Select Console Information.

5. The Wii Console's MAC address will be shown at the top of the screen.

 

18. Nintendo Wii U

1. On your Wii U, go to System Settings.

2. Select the Internet button.

3. Choose the View MAC Address option.

4. Your Wii U’s MAC address will be displayed.

19. Nintendo DS

1. From the Home menu, highlight and select the System Settings Icon.

2. Select Internet Settings.

3. Tap Other Information.

4. Tap Confirm MAC Address.

5. Your system's MAC address will be displayed on the screen.

20. Nintendo Switch

1. From the Home menu, highlight and select the System Settings Icon.

2. Scroll to the Internet section.

3. Your system's MAC address will be displayed at the System MAC Adress line.
