Personal Wireless Printers

9116 views

A USB connection from the printer to a computer is the only good and reliable way to connect a personal printer on campus. Many personal printers also support a Bluetooth connection.

Consumer home printers are designed to work on basic home networks with consumer-level wifi gateways and routers. While it may be possible to get one working on USU's network, it is not recommended or supported

The following guide is for reference only and is not supported by USU IT or the IT Service Desk

Register your wireless printer

  1. Visit Register a Device that Cannot Access the USU-guest Website for more information

Note: The MAC address should be listed on the printer. If not, you can find it by printing a configuration sheet for your printer.

    1. Change the host name of the printer to match the first section of the host name.

Note: If the host name is A99999999-5.mypc.usu.edu change the host name on the printer to A99999999-5

    2. Turn off the Bonjour Service if possible

Important: Find the security options and add a password to this web interface.  Not having a password set up makes the printer susceptible to viruses and may be disabled by the security team.

    1. Add a new network printer using the hostname in your operating system's printer menu

Note: Your hostname should be "something.mypc.usu.edu"
