Internet: Housing Access

Internet access information for USU Housing

USU Housing offers both wired (Ethernet) and wireless Internet (with the exception of family housing, see Family Housing below).

Network devices need to be registered on the USU-guest Network for full, unfiltered Internet service. Housing residents may register any type of network device, including gaming systems. The housing network is managed the same as the rest of the USU campus network.

Personal wireless access points are not allowed anywhere USU IT already provides wireless coverage via Eduroam.

Family Housing

Locations

Family housing consists of the following locations:

Differences from student housing

Due to cost considerations, Housing has opted not to provide USU wireless for family housing. Tenants may be given a stipend to cover the cost of and Housing IT AP installation assistance of a home wireless access point or router (see the Housing Access Point Policy). USU IT does not support routers or access points that are not part of the USU network, so users in family housing will be directed to either contact Housing IT Support or reproduce the problem with their end device plugged directly into the Ethernet wall jack.

Many issues are related to the personal wifi router being registered to https://netreg.usu.edu with the LAN mac address, instead of the WAN.
